Origami Oritai is an origami (art of folding paper) club launched in October, 2009 with its origin extending back to workshops which started in 2007 (Indo-Japan Friendship Year). The club was registered as a society in 2013.
Oritai has two meanings, ‘I want to fold’ and ‘a folding group’.
Oritai family is multi-dimensional. It has both young and old members from various fields as well as of various nationalities.
Oritai conducts workshops at The Japan Foundation for its members on Wednesdays and Saturdays to enjoy origami. While we are together, we learn not only origami but also about other people’s cultures and make a strong bonding among us.
Apart from regular origami workshops, Oritai has conducted special workshops at The Japan Foundation, IIT, JNU, Amity University, School of Planning and Architecture, National Museum, JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Lady Sri Ram College, Sharda University and various other institutes and schools. Oritai has also participated in The Eco-products International Fair at Pragati Maidan and Japan Education Fairs.
Oritai has invited renowned origami masters from Japan to conduct workshops. They are Ms. Emiko Suzuki, Dr. Toshikazu Kawasaki, Ms. Akiko Yamanashi, Ms. Shoko Aoyagi, Mr. Toshinori Tanaka, Ms. Miyuki Kawamura and Ms. Tomoko Fuse. They have conducted workshops at IIT, Amity University, Bahai Temple, The Japan Foundation, various schools and institutes. We have also invited Mr. Himanshu Agrawal from Mumbai, a renowned origami artist to conduct workshop for us.
Oritai has also started Rangorigami 2017. It is a fusion of Indian and Japanese culture i.e. to make Rangoli through Origami. . Rangoli is an art form, originating in India in which patterns are created on the floor or the ground using materials such as colored rice, colored sand, flower petals etc. Now, Oritai members are experimenting through Origami and getting beautiful Rangolis.
We have a facebook page ‘origamioritai’' where you can see pictures of our workshops and events. We also started our monthly Newsletter in 2017.
Origami has various medical and psychological benefits. It helps in activating brain cells and improving confidence of a person when he/she makes some model from a simple piece of paper. It helps in developing eye hand co-ordination, sequencing skills, attention skills, patience, temporal spatial skills, math reasoning etc. Origami is used in various professions like Fashion Designing, Interior Designing, Architecture, Automobile manufacturing etc. Origami is also like meditation as it calms down the mind and bring smile on the face.
Our aim is World Peace. We spread Love and Peace through Origami Magic!!
